In this book, based on an oral history project conducted by the Friends of the Porter Valley, memories of growing up, working, and living in a Yorkshire community are documented. Through memories such as skipping Sunday School to collect snails, milking your first cow as a right of passage, exploring haunted houses, being clobbered with a plimsoll for misbehaving, or watching bombs fall on Sheffield, a glimpse of twentieth-century life in the valleys is offered.
